Temple Isaiah‘s LEFTY Youth Group has a wonderful tradition. For 24 years now, the Lexington teens have raised money for MAZON in an annual dinner. This year, their dinner broke two records: with over 300 guests, it had the highest attendance of prior events, and thanks to LEFTY’s hard work and their guests’ generosity, the dinner raised $17,000, the most yet. As if that weren’t enough, the 75 teen volunteers also collected an additional $3,000 for MAZON’s Emergency Haiti Relief Fund, bringing the total raised to this event to $20,000!
LEFTY deserves all the credit for organizing, preparing and serving the dinner, but the massive success is also thanks to LEFTY’s collaboration with the community. Event attendance crosses generations; anonymous underwriters insure that all proceeds from the dinner benefit MAZON. Donations from local food growers Wilson Farm, Iggy’s Bread of the World and national retailer Whole Foods further keep tastes high and costs low.
MAZON Board Member David Napell and his wife Elsie attended the dinner, and presented a plaque of appreciation on our behalf. But even a plaque can’t say it enough:
