Health, Nutrition & Torah: Va’yera

| October 27, 2010

The Text:

Gen. 21:8 the child grew, and was weaned; and Abraham made a great feast the same day that Isaac was weaned.

The Context:

Abraham attempts to save the cities of Sodom and Gemorrah by finding righteous people within them but is unable to do so, and these cities are destroyed.  After years of infertility, Sarah becomes pregnant and gives birth to Isaac.

What it Means For Advocates:

Many American Jews are blessed with opportunities to hold gatherings with family and friends in honor of all types of life cycle events.  When you are planning a celebration, perhaps a wedding or bar/bat mitzvah party, remember MAZON in your budgeting and plan to donate 3%.  This is not only the fulfillment of a mitzvah, but something to publicize to your guests and encourage in your community.
