Our ‘golden years’ are often glamorized as a time of leisure and endless enjoyment. (Isn’t that the retirement we all dream about?) Unfortunately, the daily reality for many retirees in the United States isn’t so rose-colored.
Current statistics reveal that nearly 5 million Americans aged 65 and older are food insecure. In other words, 1 out of every 12 seniors in America is caught in a daily struggle to meet their nutritional needs. If that weren’t bad enough, recent reports from the McKinsey Institute, the Administration on Aging, and the Food Research and Action Center indicate that a substantial number of baby boomers do not even recognize that they are unprepared financially to retire. That means this problem has the potential to get much worse in the years to come.
