MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger welcomes Josh Protas
as Director of Government Affairs

National anti-hunger organization hires former Vice President and Washington Director for
the Jewish Council of Public Affairs to expand its presence in Washington, DC

Los Angeles, November 20, 2012—Looking to strengthen and deepen its existing relationships with lawmakers and anti-hunger advocates in the nation’s capitol, MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger has established an office in Washington, DC and hired Josh Protas as Director of Government Affairs. Mr. Protas will implement MAZON’s advocacy efforts, including promoting MAZON’s legislative and political priorities with Congress and the Administration, and growing MAZON’s presence with its many national partners, coalitions and fellow advocates.

“It is my great honor to join MAZON as Director of Government Affairs,” says Protas. “I am fortunate to have worked as a partner with MAZON on multiple anti-hunger initiatives during my tenure at the JCPA, and I have always been impressed by the caliber of the organization’s Board and staff. I am eager to translate my passion for fighting hunger to build upon MAZON’s 27-year legacy of achievement and help take its advocacy and public policy work to the next level.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome Josh to the team,“ says Abby J. Leibman, President & CEO at MAZON. “We’ve built a remarkable staff, one that works tirelessly every day to advance the mission of the organization. Josh has already made himself an indispensable part of that team.”

Prior to joining MAZON, Mr. Protas was Vice President and Washington Director for the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA). In this role, he coordinated advocacy on public policy issues, provided leadership for the JCPA’s Equal Opportunity and Social Justice Task Force and oversaw its Confronting Poverty campaign. Previously, Mr. Protas served as Senior Vice President of the Jewish Federation of Southern Arizona and director of the Tucson Jewish Community Relations Council.
