MAZON brings 25 years of effective, strategic grantmaking to the fight to prevent and alleviate hunger. We have awarded $53 million in grants since our founding, and award grants totaling between $3 and $4 million to more than 300 carefully screened hunger relief groups each year. Grants are awarded principally in the United States, though we also support vital hunger relief efforts in Israel and selected developing nations.
MAZON makes grants to every aspect of this nation’s anti-hunger community. This includes meal distribution, food banking and grocery delivery, nutrition and hunger awareness education and advocacy. Grants are provided to many organizations serving the Jewish poor. However, in keeping with the best of Jewish tradition, MAZON responds to all who are in need. Applications from organizations that proselytize, impose any sort of religious requirement or discriminate in any way against clients will not be considered.

MAZON’s leadership in hunger relief extends beyond our grantmaking. We also develop and implement a number of programs that help enhance our impact and strengthen the work of our partners in the field. Through these efforts, we strive to identify and accelerate the replication of effective strategies and programs as well as build grantee capacity to improve and expand their services and advocacy.
In 2011 we kicked off our Healthy Options, Healthy Meals initaitive – a partnership with Kaiser Permanente – which will help food banks across the country improve access to healthy foods for the low-income families they serve.
In 2010, we began a pilot of the Healthy Snack Sack Program, which provides children with nutrient-rich snacks, educates families about affordable nutritious food, and provides participating food pantries with the tools and training they need to help client families learn to make healthier meal and snack choices within their budgets.
In 2007, we launched the California Nutrition & Healthy Eating Initiative, a partnership with The California Endowment to develop strategies and tools to assist grantees in their anti-hunger advocacy as well as their efforts to expand access to and distribution of healthy food to low-income individuals and families.
MAZON hosted a web-based training on advocacy to help grantees build their capacity, leadership and effectiveness.
