Bequests

The most popular type of estate gift is a bequest. Most bequests to MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger are in the form or a trust or will and bequeath cash or securities to help us continue our fight to end hunger.

Outright Bequest

An outright bequest specifies that MAZON receive a percentage of your estate or a specific dollar amount. This is the most immediate and direct type of bequest. It can be a percentage (50% for example) or a specific dollar amount ($100,000, for example). Suggested wording is:

“I give, devise and bequeath to MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, at 10495 Santa Monica Blvd, Suite 100, Los Angeles, CA 90025, the sum of $_______________ or ______ % of my estate in support of MAZON’s mission.

Residual Bequest

A residual bequest provides that MAZON receives all or a stated portion of your estate after all other bequests, debts, taxes and expenses have been distributed. Suggested wording is:

“I give, devise and bequeath to MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, at 10495 Santa Monica Blvd, Suite 100, Los Angeles, CA 90025, all or ___ % of the residue of my estate in support of MAZON’s mission.”

 Contingent Bequest

A contingent bequest is an outright or residual bequest that becomes effective only when the primary heir or heirs do not survive you. Suggested wording is:

“In the event that ________ predeceases me, I give, devise, and bequeath his/her bequest or share to MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, at 10495 Santa Monica Blvd, Suite 100, Los Angeles, CA 90025, in support of MAZON’s mission.”

Charitable Trusts

Charitable Lead Trust

The charitable lead trust provides income for charitable purposes for a designated period of time. After this designated time period the assets then transfer to the designated beneficiaries – typically family members of other heirs. The charitable lead trust is a trust that the estate owner establishes either during life or at death.

Charitable Remainder Unitrust

The charitable remainder unitrust provides an income that may vary annually to the donor or a beneficiary specified by the donor. At the termination of the trust, a charitable beneficiary such as MAZON receives the remainder interest in the trust. A donor transfers property under a trust agreement that specifies how trust income and principal are to be distributed, and the trust may be created to become effective during life or at death.

Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust

The charitable remainder annuity trust provides a fixed income amount to the donor or a beneficiary specified by the donor. At the termination of the trust, a charitable beneficiary such as MAZON receives the remainder interest in the trust. A donor transfers property under a trust agreement that specifies how trust income and principal are to be distributed, and the trust may be created to become effective during life or at death.
