Charitable Bequests

The most popular type of estate gift is a bequest. Most bequests come in the form of a trust or will.

A bequest gift to MAZON is a promise now to leave a legacy in the future. It costs little or nothing to arrange, often allows for federal estate tax savings, and supports an important cause while still enabling you to provide for family and friends.

A charitable bequest may minimize your estate tax.  For donors who are subject to estate tax, a charitable bequest could reduce the amount of estate tax paid.  In addition, some assets, such as retirement accounts, are heavily taxed when left to heirs and may also trigger an estate tax.  A charitable gift, funded with these assets, bypasses taxation and gives your legacy maximum impact.

Those who provide a bequest to MAZON may be recognized as members of our Legacy Society, a distinguished group of supporters who have made a planned gift to fight hunger for those in need.

If you have already included a bequest for MAZON in your estate plan, please let us know.  We would like to recognize you as member of the MAZON Legacy Society.

Life Income Gifts

Life income gifts allow donors to leave a gift in the care of MAZON while earning income during their lifetime.  The two most popular life income gifts are charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts.

Charitable Gift Annuities are ideal for people who want to receive a fixed income over the rest of their lives.  Donors work with a local community foundation and name MAZON as the remainder beneficiary of the annuity after the donor passes.  The community foundation will make the fixed payments to the donor (or a designated beneficiary) for life. Upon the donor passing, the remainder is distributed to MAZON. Please check with your community foundation for their specific terms for Charitable Gift Annuities.

Benefits to donors include:

  • Security of a fixed income for life
  • Income tax charitable deduction in year of gift
  • Legacy support for MAZON

Charitable Remainder Trusts also provide income to donors during their lives or for a term of years.  Donors give an asset to a local community foundation which makes payments to the donor (or designated beneficiary) for life or the set period, based on a percentage of the asset’s value.  The donor designates MAZON is the remainder beneficiary of the trust. After the donor passes, MAZON receives the remainder of the trust. Please check with your community foundation for their specific terms for Charitable Remainder Trusts.

If you have already named MAZON as the remainder beneficiary of a Life Income Gift, please let us know.  We would like to recognize you as member of the MAZON Legacy Society.

Beneficiary Designation Gifts

A simple and flexible way to support MAZON is to designate us as a beneficiary of a retirement or investment account, or your life insurance policy.  During your lifetime, you continue to use your accounts as long as you need them and by designating MAZON, you avoid legal fees, reduce taxes for your family, and receive an estate tax charitable deduction.  You can also change your mind at any time.

Here are the simple steps to making Beneficiary Designation Gifts to MAZON:

  • Contact your broker, banker, or insurance agent
  • Ask them to send you a new beneficiary designation form
  • Complete the form, sign it and mail it back to your broker, banker or agent
  • When you pass away, your account or insurance policy will be paid or transferred to MAZON consistent with the beneficiary designation

If you have already named MAZON as the beneficiary of a retirement or investment account or your life insurance policy, please let us know.  We would like to recognize you as member of the MAZON Legacy Society.

MAZON is a leading voice in Washington D.C. on anti-hunger issues, especially those that involve populations or problems that have been previously overlooked or ignored.

A legacy gift to MAZON is a promise now to leave a legacy in the future.  As you consider your own lasting legacy, we invite you to join the MAZON Legacy Society by designating MAZON as a beneficiary of your estate plan.

Those who provide a legacy gift to MAZON may be recognized as members of our MAZON Legacy Society, a distinguished group of supporters who have made a planned gift to fight hunger for those in need.

A legacy is something that lives beyond us and makes the world a better place for generations to come.
