Anti-Hunger Advocate Slams President’s Dangerous Intent to Defy Court Order on SNAP

November 4, 2025

In a shocking announcement of his apparent intent to defy multiple federal courts, President Donald Trump today announced that his administration will refuse to fund the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) until the Republican-led federal government shutdown ends. MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger released the following statement condemning the announcement in the strongest possible terms and demanded the administration fully and immediately fund the program as is legally required.

MAZON President & CEO Abby J. Leibman stated:

“Today’s announcement from President Trump is horrifying. Two courts were explicitly clear that SNAP benefits must start flowing immediately, not after the shutdown. Not after more political games. Not after millions of Americans face the terrifying prospect of hunger without end. When someone only knows how to punch down and knows they don’t have a winning argument, this is what you get. This is a pattern of dangerous recklessness, lawlessness, and disregard for innocent families who are being trampled underfoot by the Trump administration, and it must stop. This cannot stand one minute longer.”

They also hope to increase funding for pursuit of immigrants.  Read more.
