Rabbi Harold Kravitz
Rabbi Harold J. Kravitz, Immediate Past Board Chair of MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger (Chaired 2012-2015) . He presently serves as Chair of the MAZON Nominating Committee. He first joined the MAZON Board in 1999. He was introduced to the organization by his wife Cindy Reich who read about it in the pages of Moment Magazine when it was first proposed by Leonard Fein in 1985.
Rabbi Kravitz is Senior Rabbi – Max Newman Family Chair in Rabbinics at the Adath Jeshurun Congregation (Conservative), Minnetonka, MN, He began his rabbinic career there as Assistant Rabbi in 1987. He is an officer of the Rabbinical Assembly, the international organization of Conservative rabbis, serving as Secretary (2014- ). He also serves on the Rabbinical Assembly’s Vaad HaKavod – Committee for Professional Ethics (2004- ), which he chaired for three terms (2006-12).
A native of Philadelphia, Rabbi Kravitz completed his B.A. in History at Temple University (Philadelphia, 1981). He did graduate studies at the University of Judaism (Los Angeles, now the American Jewish University), Hebrew University (Jerusalem 84-85), and was ordained and received an M.A. in Jewish Studies at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America (New York City, 1987).
Rabbi Kravitz is married to Cindy Reich, a national consultant in the field of Jewish Education and Program Evaluation, who served as the Principal of the St. Paul Talmud Torah Day School. Their children are Gabriel (married to Yael Smiley), Talia and Elana.
