What does Advocacy Mean to Us?
Advocacy is at the core of MAZON’s social justice work, yet it’s a term that’s often misunderstood. Merriam-Webster defines advocacy as “the act or process of supporting a cause or proposal.”
That’s a pretty nebulous definition, which makes it easy to see how advocacy can mean so many things to different organizations.
We think you can do more than “support a cause.” So how do we define advocacy?
Advocating on behalf of a cause is about raising awareness and taking action in your community. It’s about rallying voices together to advance a collective message to those who have the power to improve our nation’s policies.
We advocate because charity will never be enough to end hunger in America. We advocate to create long-term change. We advocate to effect not one or five lives, but countless lives.
We know your voice can make a difference. So use it.
P.S. Make sure you are signed up to receive our action alerts so you can add your voice to advocate on behalf of those who need it!
