We’re excited to share that Challah for Hunger will be at the Partner Expo at the 2025 Hillel International Global Assembly (HIGA)! Whether your campus has a long-running chapter, want to try a one-off challah bake, thinking about starting a chapter, or you’re simply curious about how baking, learning, and advocacy fit together, we’d love to meet you! We’ll be there to connect, answer questions, and hear what’s most present for students and Hillel pros on your campus right now. Stop by to chat with us, grab some stickers and postcards, and hear how students across the country are taking action against hunger.

What is Challah for Hunger?

Rooted in Jewish tradition and advocacy, Challah for Hunger brings students together to bake and sell challah, learn about hunger and its root causes, and advocate for policies that advance dignity and food security. Chapters bake challah and sell them on campus to raise funds for MAZON’s national work of fighting hunger for people of all backgrounds and faiths. Challah for Hunger offers a way to take an ancient ritual and turn it into collective action.

Through these experiences, students build leadership skills, deepen their understanding of justice, Jewish values, and create spaces of bonding and learning. Many Hillels use Challah for Hunger as a tangible program that connects Shabbat, community, and advocacy throughout the year.

Postcards at the Expo

We’ll have “No One Deserves to Go Hungry” campaign postcards at our table for anyone who wants to sit, reflect, and fill one out during HIGA. If your campus has already completed postcards, swing by and drop them off, we’ll add them to the national collection. Every postcard contributes to a powerful visual statement: a growing call from 47,000 people, nationwide reminding Congress that hunger is not a partisan issue. New to the postcard activity or want to bring it back to your community? Visit mazon.org/postcards or stop by our table to learn more about facilitation tips, timelines, and mailing instructions.

Come Say Hi!

If you’d like to schedule a time to chat during the conference, please reach out to Tammy Habteyes (thabteyes@mazon.org). We can’t wait to meet you at the Partner Expo, see you at HIGA!

Historic Cuts to SNAP Deepen the War on Women (Ms. Magazine)

The last few months in Washington, D.C., have been consumed with political theatrics around the budget reconciliation process. Republicans in the House and Senate scrambled to pass legislation that will cut $184 billion from SNAP through 2034—by far the largest cut to SNAP in the program’s history—to finance tax cuts for the wealthy big businesses. They also hope to increase funding for pursuit of immigrants.  Read more.
