MAZON Welcomes New Members of the 119th Congress

Last week, MAZON staff hand-delivered letters to newly-elected Members of the 119th Congress, welcoming them to Capitol Hill, introducing them to our work, and urging them to join us in the fight to end hunger.

We reminded them that as they stepped into the halls of Congress, they were assuming the weighty role of steward to the people’s needs, aspirations, and hopes for a better future.

Members of Congress hold the power to craft and approve policies that expand nutrition assistance programs, strengthen the safety net for the most vulnerable, and tackle the root causes of hunger. We at MAZON stand ready to help them use that power to defend against attempts to narrow, weaken, and withhold resources that so many in our communities rely on in times of need.

As an organization driven by our faith and values, we believe that access to food is a right, not a privilege, and that it is the obligation of our leaders to ensure that right for all Americans.

This will require both courage and compassion, acceptance of the data and science, collaboration across party lines, and solutions that prioritize people over politics.
