A core part of MAZON’s mission is our work to address hunger among populations that face unique, systemic barriers to accessing food assistance. Our decades of investment in understanding the acute needs of overlooked and underserved group gave us the foresight to recognize that trans youth are in a position of particular vulnerability. MAZON is working to develop policy-based solutions that address the barriers trans youth face when trying to access food assistance and to build programming that will make it safer and more affirming for trans youth to access food through the charitable system.
Seeking to End Hunger Among Transgender Youth
This month, the national advocacy organization MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger took bold organizational action by declaring trans youth a priority population, vowing to marshal resources and advocacy efforts on behalf of those in the community struggling with hunger. Read more.
Last month marked LGBTQ+ Pride Month which each year commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City — a moment that coalesced the gay liberation movement — and celebrates the LGBTQ+* community. At MAZON, we work all year to honor LGBTQ+ older adults who show tenacity and resilience in the face of great challenges, and to ensure that federal nutrition safety net programs are more inclusive, equitable, and accessible to all those who need help regardless of their circumstances.
