Join the SNAP Day of Action: Hunger Can’t Wait

More than 40 million Americans could wake up on November 1 with no way to buy food. Parents, children, veterans, and seniors could face a hunger crisis. All because of the reckless government shutdown. SNAP benefits for November are in danger of not being issued.

Here’s the thing: the money to prevent this exists. The USDA has contingency funds set aside for exactly this kind of emergency. But so far, the administration has refused to use them.

That’s why on Tuesday, October 28, we’re leading advocates across the country in a SNAP Day of Action. We’re calling on our leaders to use every tool they have to protect families from hunger and keep benefits flowing.

Why This Matters

SNAP is one of the most effective anti-hunger programs in America. It helps people afford groceries, puts healthy food within reach, and strengthens local economies.

The USDA has the legal authority and the funds to make sure those benefits continue. The contingency fund was created for moments like this, to prevent hunger when politics get in the way.

But right now, they’re refusing to use it. That decision would mean empty refrigerators and longer lines at food banks already stretched to the breaking point. It would mean children going to bed hungry because leaders failed to act.

This isn’t a question of resources. It’s a question of will.

Here’s What We Are Asking

We need the USDA to use contingency funds immediately to ensure November SNAP benefits are delivered. And we need Congress to demand that USDA follow the law and act before it’s too late.

This is about people, not politics. It’s about making sure families can buy food next week.

How to Join the Day of Action

Everyone can be part of this effort. Here’s how:

Share on social media. Use the hashtag #SNAPDayofAction and use our toolkit to spread the word.

Call your representatives. Tell them to pressure USDA to release contingency funds now. You can take action here.

Mobilize your community. Ask faith groups, schools, and food banks to share the message and stand in solidarity.

Hunger Is a Policy Choice

The administration has the tools to prevent this crisis. What’s missing is the will.

On October 28, let’s make sure our leaders hear us loud and clear. Join the SNAP Day of Action. Share the message. Speak up for the millions who rely on this program every month.

Hunger is not inevitable. It’s a choice, and together, we can choose action.

Take action: contact your Members of Congress and spread the word.
