Partnership Grants
Lasting solutions to hunger are built from the ground up. Over four decades, MAZON has invested over $100 million in state-based advocates closest to the communities we serve through three invite-only grant programs, growing their capacity, deepening their impact, and strengthening the movements that create meaningful change.
Our Programs
MAZON supports partners through grantmaking programs, each suited to a different stage of advocacy work. The Emerging Advocacy Fund (EAF), Indian Country, and Israel grants are awarded by invitation only, reflecting long-term relationships built over years of partnership. The Quick Reaction Fund (QRF) is open for applications and designed for organizations ready to act quickly when opportunity arises.
Quick Reaction Fund
In 2017 MAZON launched the Quick Reaction Fund (QRF), and since then the QRF has served as a powerful tool for anti-hunger policy advocates to win campaigns and strengthen the food security of our neighbors. The QRF rapidly deploys grant dollars so that advocates can rise to the challenge of unanticipated, time-limited challenges or opportunities to achieve policy change.
Emerging Advocacy Fund
MAZON has always invested in partners across the U.S. and empowered them to address the broken systems that allow hunger to persist.
Today, our Emerging Advocacy Fund targets support to some of the most food-insecure communities in the country to build a robust, trained, and organized network of anti-hunger advocates.
Israel
Since its founding, MAZON has been working to address food security and severe poverty issues in Israel. Today, we have staff on the ground working with over 18 partner organizations. The toll of war on the Israeli economy, food costs, and agricultural supply chains has intensified the need for both emergency aid and systemic solutions. Alongside our partners, MAZON is urging Israel to take active steps to respond to growing hunger through both emergency aid and systemic solutions.
Indian Country
MAZON has long recognized that Tribal-led organizations understand the unique challenges of food insecurity and food sovereignty. We are proud to support and stand with partners in Indian Country who are working to address immediate hunger as well as rebuild traditional food systems that support Indigenous self-determination, wellness, cultures, values, communities, and economies.
A History of MAZON’s Grantmaking: Where We’ve Been
For more than 40 years, MAZON has been a leader in the national anti-hunger field, building consensus among the U.S. philanthropic emergency food system that structural change, and working toward that change, is a legitimate and necessary means of advancing an anti-hunger agenda.
MAZON used its platform as a funder to help convince an often skeptical hunger relief community that charity will never solve hunger in America. We were a pioneer in educating the anti-hunger community about the federal government’s critical role in ending hunger.
Beginning in 2017, MAZON refocused its U.S. grantmaking on states with the highest rates of food insecurity; not coincidentally, these states tend to have fewer organizations and individuals working to address hunger. The most significant impediment to advancing effective policies in these states is a lack of resources to sustain advocacy staff positions.
Where We’re Going
Today, MAZON’s Emerging Advocacy Fund invests in staff capacity so our partners have the stability and financial security to leverage their local expertise, taking on new challenges and addressing hunger through advocacy and public policy efforts that achieve long-term, systemic change. Our Quick Reaction Fund (QRF) also awards one-time grants to enable and empower innovative, rapid-response initiatives.
