Until we recognize the profound prevalence of hunger here at home, we will never rally the political will to end it. From that core belief, This Is Hunger was born.

This is Hunger is a powerful, immersive digital video experience that explores who struggles with hunger in America and why. This teaser gives just a glimpse of what is shared in the This is Hunger Digital Experience.

The Creation of This Is Hunger

Featuring images by renowned photographer and documentarian Barbara Grover, with concept design by Marni Gittleman (of the Noah’s Ark exhibit at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles), This Is Hunger was first conceived of as a traveling exhibit that traversed the United States, educating and engaging communities about the reality and scope of hunger in America through a visceral, compelling exhibit housed in a big-rig truck. Over its 16-month tour, MAZON engaged 90 host organizations at over 70 stops in 30 states and the District of Columbia, and welcomed more than 15,000 visitors, including a number of local, state, and federal elected officials.

“The portraits and first-person narratives create a surprising, intimate image of hunger in this country, showing that it could be happening to anyone, anywhere. MAZON’s educational, interactive exhibition … ‘[is] a unique, engaging and empowering approach to exposing [people] … to the true experience of hunger in the United States.’”
