House GOP Continues to Worsen Hunger with So-Called ‘Farm Bill’, Charges Leading Advocates
On the heels of the House of Representatives passage of the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, also known as the “Farm Bill,” anti-hunger advocates at MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger decried the bill as yet another Congressional failure to address America’s growing hunger crisis. The organization called out Republican leadership’s continued attacks on food security programs, noting the dangerous impact these collective actions are having nationwide.
MAZON President & CEO Abby J. Leibman stated:
“As a direct result of last summer’s Republican budget cuts, millions of Americans have been plunged into hunger as their life-saving food benefits are ripped away. States are desperately scrambling to adjust to the massive changes and budget cuts that were imposed on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), with more people being thrown off these programs every day. The Farm Bill is a critical vehicle for Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle to come together, as they have in the past, and fix at least some of the damage done. But once again, House Republicans decided that was not going to happen.
“This bill is a stunning illustration of the moral bankruptcy of the Republican Party, failing to recognize that the human beings affected by the majority party’s approach will face losses that will reverberate for generations. It does not address soaring food costs and hunger across the country, and takes no steps to reverse the catastrophic federal disinvestment in SNAP and other food security programs in the Republican budget and tax law. It completely fails to alleviate the unprecedented economic stress placed on states who will soon be forced to cover federal costs to run lifesaving programs. This bill does not meet the moment for farmers, families, and all stakeholders who depend on a bipartisan Farm Bill process.
“Our work to stop this ineffective and deeply disappointing legislation continues in the Senate, and we will do all we can to push our elected officials to finally do the right thing and stand up for those in need.”
Last month, MAZON led a coalition of 31 national faith-based organizations opposing this Farm Bill. The full letter can be found here.
