A free touring multimedia exhibit that aims to introduce Bay Area residents to the new realities of hunger in America will make three stops this month.
“This is Hunger” is on a 10-month national tour, courtesy of the nonprofit group called MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, as well as sponsoring synagogues and other organizations.
The 1,000-foot-exhibit, housed in an expandable 53-foot-long semitrailer, will be parked at three sites. Admission is free but reservations are required because each interactive tour is a 45-minute timed entry experience for 30 attendees.
— Saturday, Jan. 13, and Sunday, Jan. 14: Peninsula Jewish Community Center, 800 Foster City Blvd., Foster City.
— Tuesday, Jan. 16, through Saturday, Jan. 20: Brandeis School of San Francisco, 855 Brotherhood Way.
— Tuesday, Jan. 23, through Friday, Jan. 26: Congregation Beth Am, 26790 Arastradero Road, Los Altos Hills.
“We often think of hunger in stereotypes, such as the homeless person walking down the street, but the reality of hunger in San Mateo County is much more complex,” said Nicole Cruz, Youth & Family Program Manager at the Peninsula center, said in a statement. “We want to help everyone understand that those who are hungry can be your neighbor who just lost her job or the teenager at school who can’t concentrate properly because he isn’t eating enough nutritious food at home.”
