MAZON Statements

Following the introduction of the Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act of 2024 by U.S. Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), anti-hunger advocates applauded the legislation and called for its quick passage. MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, the leading national organization advocating to end hunger among people of all faiths and backgrounds nationwide, urged Congress to move quickly to pass the legislation, noting the impact it would have on the tens of millions of Americans living with hunger.

“We are delighted to see the full text of Chairwoman Stabenow’s proposed Farm Bill, which offers a visionary blueprint for how to end hunger, and also centers long-needed bipartisan policies to address the persistent needs of military families, Indigenous communities, the people of Puerto Rico, and so many more. With 47 million Americans facing food insecurity and hunger trending in the wrong direction, our current federal safety net is not sufficient. Given how little time remains in this Congressional session, it is vital that Congress advance the Rural Prosperity and Food Security Act of 2024 to protect and strengthen the nutrition safety net for years to come. The stakes are simply too high for Congress to do anything less than to support those at risk of hunger.”
