Shavuot is a time of gathering and study; a time to stay up into the late hours delving into texts and learning opportunities ranging in subjects and commentaries from millennia ago to current day. This year, MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger, is proud to offer an opportunity of learning for your congregation – a guided tour of our virtual Hunger Museum.
Why take a tour of our Hunger Museum on Shavuot? Our sages tell us of the deep connection between Shavuot and the story of Ruth who found herself in a new land during a time of famine, without, shelter, or security. She was only able to provide for herself and Naomi, her mother-in-law at the time of the barley harvest, through the agricultural law of leket or “gleaning.” The Jewish commandment to care for the poor and the stranger in our lands is deeply embedded in our history and ethos, and it is one we still honor today.
With that in mind, we invite you to schedule an hour with us on Erev Shavuot, so that we can learn and grow together, bringing awareness to the issue of food insecurity, one that connects deeply to Jewish values and ethics.
If you are interested in doing so, email our Outreach team, so that we can set up a time for your virtual tour and to provide you with all the necessary instructions and information.
