Los Angeles, CA (February 20, 2018)—If you’re in the D.C. area this week, you’ll see MAZON’s new ad campaign featured on bus stops around key landmarks. The poignant ads highlight MAZON’s indignation at President Trump’s Fiscal Year 2019 budget proposal, which has left the anti-hunger field reeling. As MAZON president and CEO Abby J. Leibman shared in a recent statement, “President Trump’s budget proposal is a moral disgrace that will hurt tens of millions of low-income families and increase hunger in America.”
The proposal calls for over $213 billion in cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) over 10 years, as well as an ill-conceived ‘harvest box’ in place of necessary benefits. These proposed structural changes would rip holes in our nation’s most critical anti-hunger safety net, making the problem of hunger in the U.S. worse, not better. The proposal has been met with outcry from anti-hunger advocates, community leaders, policymakers, and members of the media.
This campaign is part of MAZON’s Quick Reaction Fund, which responds to pressing issues that will disproportionally impact the lives of food insecure people. The ads will run on bus shelters in the D.C. area near key landmarks through the week of February 19 - 25, 2018.
