MAZON Welcomes New House Panel Focused on Military Quality of Life, Hunger
MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger welcomed news that the House Armed Services Committee will form a new subcommittee to focus exclusively on quality-of-life issues for military service members, including hunger.
“This is a promising step that Congress might finally give pervasive hunger in the military the attention it deserves,” said MAZON President and CEO Abby J. Leibman. “For over a decade, we at MAZON have worked to change the circumstances that allow hunger to persist among military families, and we welcome this new bipartisan focus on this critical issue. I agree with Representative Bacon that one-quarter of military families facing hunger is unacceptable. The formation of this new House subcommittee focused on hunger, housing, and other support gaps is a positive step from our leaders on Capitol Hill; Congress and the Administration have the power to enact bold change, and MAZON is ready to work with them to enact the systemic, long-term solutions for which we advocate.”
